Students will learn about some of the most important industries for the Dominican economy, from their raw materials to the artisanal manufacturing of the products, or their integration into the local idiosyncrasy (rum, tobacco, coffee), and will delve into other cultural aspects of the island, such as language, values & traditions, its music, or its gastronomy. Students will discover the past and recent History of the country by reading about the Mirabal sisters and the Trujillo dictatorship in the novelÌýIn the Time of the Butterflies, or walking around the Barrio Colonial in Santo Domingo. We will also explore some of the ecosystems (flora and fauna) with a visit to the Saona Natural Park.
